The biggest B&B in the Central West for sale

The Old Vic Inn – Canowindra heritage

Some 154 years ago the first weatherboard form of the Victoria Hotel was opened in Canowindra. Fifty years later the first brick section was built.  It is now a magnificent heritage listed building in the main street – a classic Australian inland hotel.

Tom Sheehan, Managing Director of Williams Machin Real Estate said ‘In the 1960s The Old Vic Inn became a convalescent home for several decades. Then the current owners converted it into a large, well provisioned guest accommodation. They have run it for several years but now they are seeking to retire, so it is on the market and we are handling the sale.’

‘The Old Vic Inn has an occupancy rate as high as 60% mostly at weekends as Canowindra is a recognised tourism destination in the Orange region.  Canowindra has all year round attractions like the wonderful Age of Fishes Museum, and heritage shops in the main street, as well as world renowned events like the Canowindra International Balloon Challenge each April. Canowindra is also a great place to base yourself to visit other parts of the region like Cowra, Young, Parkes and Forbes.’

Much has been done to preserve and restore the building to its original beauty. Each bedroom now has its own bathroom, not a feature of old pubs, which makes it a higher standard of guest accommodation than is often available in regional NSW. The handmade bricks are as solid as ever and the graceful arches and iron lace on the verandas are really beautiful.

Tom said ‘it is a delightful building to walk through. An attractive bar is fully licenced, comfortably furnished and there are a number of open fireplaces throughout. The Inn has a popular restaurant and the upstairs veranda hosts some great social dinners with up to 80 guests. Recently a group of guests took over the whole Inn for a 40th birthday party weekend.’
