Wenty golfers get first walk-through of new multi-million dollar clubhouse
Wentworth Golf Club members got their first look at the new multi-million dollar clubhouse and it's fair to say they’re impressed!
Last Wednesday, July 26, dozens of golfers took up the invitation to have a walk-through of the building site and you could feel the excitement in the air.
It has now been four years since fire destroyed the former clubhouse and golfers have had to make do with temporary facilities since. Taking in the stunning views over the Wentworth course, Golf Committee President Lee Pickett was thrilled to finally see the new building taking shape.
“From the bottom looking up, it's big. But from the top looking down, it's just magnificent!” Lee said.
“Just look at the magnificent view that everybody's going to get across that 18th hole... I can't wait, really! To have a clubhouse back, It's just so exciting because it completes the round.”
It was hoped that the new $20 million-plus building would be ready by Christmas 2023, but the construction was delayed when it was discovered that the site was sitting on solid rock forcing changes to the structural plan of the foundations. Rain and supply issues cause further delays, but if all goes well the new Wentworth Golf Club should be open around Easter 2024.
Orange Ex-Services’ Club CEO Nathan White said it’s great to have the opportunity to show their members the progress that’s being made at the site.
“In this instance, we put it out to all our golfing members and then, closer to Christmas, we'll probably look to do it again when the walls are up and there's a bit more of a roof happening, and we’ll put it out there to the general public a bit more,” he said.
Once complete, Nathan said it will be an impressive venue unlike anything else in Orange.
“This view, looking north over the 18th green and the fairways!” he said. “As you walk through the front door, you're looking out these floor-to-ceiling windows and the outlook is going to blow people away!”
