2020 saw the Hay Bale Challenge transform to a broader Sculptures by the Bush Competition, as a fun visual aspect for those road trips it’s back again for 2021. Sculptures by the Bush includes three categories allowing for local residents to really show off their creative capabilities.

With the display period inclusive of the April School Holidays, the Sculptures by the Bush campaign will encourage visitors to the Blayney Shire. A digital map will be created of all registrations as well as places along the route, encouraging tourists to stop for lunch, browse through local shops or visit local attractions in the Blayney Shire.

Blayney Shire Councillor David Somervaille said 2020 was a challenging year but the participation of residents entering and travellers visiting the region was incredible.

“Last year had almost 5,000 views of the digital map with visitors and locals travelling around the area to see the entries.

“This event is a great opportunity for local residents to get involved, have a bit of fun putting the artworks together and even win some prizes.

“We would love to see residents to work together towards creating routes between the villages by groups of neighbouring residents all getting involved together,” said Cr Somervaille.

Sculptures will be on display from Thursday 1 April – Sunday 30 April, with registrations now open on the Blayney Shire Council website. Entries close March 28, so get in quick!

Artwork will be judged with cash prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place in each category. These categories include; the Hay Bale Art Challenge, Farm Art Challenge, Scarecrow Challenge, People’s Choice Award.
