Adventure that’s uniquely yours
Looking for that once-in-a-lifetime travel experience? Thinking of an exotic getaway? Or maybe you are trying to plan the perfect family escape?
With 20 years’ experience in the travel industry, and having personally visited over 100 countries, Michell Slack-Smith will have an answer that’s just right for you.
Michelle’s boutique travel agency Adventum Travel specialises in creating adventurous, uniquely memorable holiday experiences tailored specially to meet the needs of her clients.
Adventum Travel was founded in 2019 after Michelle found herself drawn to the idea of running her own business and decided to step back from the corporate world.
“I worked for Flight Centre for 20 years in various roles; the last few years I headed up the recruitment team,” said Michelle.
“The bit I loved about Flight Centre — even though I haven't been in the travel side for a while — was selling and organising travel for people. So, I took a redundancy in April 2019 and that’s when Adventum was born!”
Adventum is Latin for ‘adventure.’ And it’s in adding a little adventure to your holiday that Michelle specialises.
“If you just want to go to Fiji and lay on the beach; I can book it for you. But I what I really love, and why my clients come to me, are those true culture experiences — say you want to go to Sri Lanka, but you don't want to stay in a backpackers. I will find you a bespoke hotel (often locally owned) to ensure your experience is incredible said Michelle.
“Another gap I saw in the market was the really well-travelled people that wanted to do something different. They want to have experiences. Super fun things like driving supercar on a track carved from ice around a frozen lake deep within the artic circle! Or maybe gardens are your thing: how about going behind the scenes of 1000 year old garden in Italy – truly unique experiences!”
Another specialty of Michelle’s is planning family holidays — particularly for families that don’t match the ‘two adults, two children’ family unit.
“It can be difficult for families that are not your perfect ‘two adults, two kids,’ even just room configurations, can be difficult. We did a trip to Japan with some good friends who have three children, having three kids is like having 50 in Tokyo. From this another niche grew.”
The coronavirus pandemic has obviously put international travel on pause, but it hasn’t stopped Michelle finding adventure for clients a little closer to home.
“From then it has been about finding that adventure and unique things people could do within Australia,” said Michelle.
“I've nicknamed Lord Howe as the new Aspen, as many people that would normally travel to North America to ski at the end of the year are all going to Lord Howe. Last week I booked four families over the Christmas period. Tasmania and the Northern Territory are also very popular!”
