Conservatorium Concerts Return with Live Stream
Tomorrow night the Orange Regional Conservatorium (ORC) will present a free live streamed piano concert— its first concert in more than two months!
Pianoforte is an annual concert featuring the staff and students of the ORC’s keyboard department and even with the current restrictions on having a live audience it has proven to be the perfect concert to present in an online format.
The idea proved successful back in March with an online audience of hundreds tuning in to watch a chamber music concert the very day restrictions were announced.
“We saw the challenge of not having an audience as no reason not to continue as planned” said ORC Head of Keyboard Studies David Shaw, “There will only be a couple of people on stage at any one time and there will be two grand pianos between them, making social distancing easy!”
Featured in the performance will be several ORC staff and advanced students who will perform a varied program of music by The Beatles, Brahms, Dave Brubeck, Rachmaninoff and more.
“It just made sense to keep concerts going in some form” said Conservatorium Events Manager and guitarist James Buchanan. “It may be some time before we can get back to normal, but in the meantime, we are determined to find ways to keep the local music industry going.
“We employ over 30 professional musicians and we all feel a little bit lost not being able to perform regularly. This will go a long way to easing that.”
Pianoforte will be streamed live on the Orange Regional Conservatorium’s Facebook page Friday
