Winner of the Western NSW Local Health District- Medical Ward at Orange

2020 - The International Year of the Nurse and Midwife in collaboration with International Nurses Day celebrated on the 12th May, provides us with the opportunity to acknowledge all nurses and the critical role they play in the healthcare of our community.

The annual International Nurses Day celebrations were held a little differently this year due to the current pandemic and social distancing restrictions.

At 3pm on the 12th May, The Orange Hospital and staff from across the district dialled in virtually to hear the much anticipated announcement of the Western NSW Local Health district Team Of The Year. The WNSW LHD includes 38 hospitals (25 of which are multipurpose centres), 50 primary and community health services and 23 community mental health facilities.

It is with great excitement that that the Orange Hospital Medical ward was awarded the Western NSW Local health district nursing Team of the Year for 2020. The Medical ward were thrilled with the announcement of this highly sought after title.

Medical ward was recognised for their commitment to improving patient safety including their project on falls. This project has significantly reduced the amount of patient falls therefore reducing fall related injuries and enhancing improved patient outcomes. The team was also recognised for the wards preparedness for the Covid-19 pandemic including the efficient facilitating and upskilling of the staff on the respiratory ward.

The district recognised and celebrated the staff who are committed, kind, passionate and brave in the face of COVID-19.
