“Pancake Tuesday” feast welcomes Lent at Millthorpe
Millthorpe’s famous “Pancake Evening” feast is on again next Tuesday, March 5; and everyone is invited to attend.
The annual celebration at the St Marks’ Church Hall on Park Street offers delicious, home-made pancakes and a variety of savoury and sweet fillings and tea, coffee and dessert.
This free event starts at 6.30pm; just bring your favourite filling to share at this fun family feast.
Pancake or “Shrove” Tuesday (also variously called “Mardi Gras” and “Carnevale”), is a traditional celebration that marks the start of Lent in the Christian churches.
Communities would make pancakes with their left-over gourmet meats and sweets before the start of the six-week period of self-denial leading up to Easter.
