Sounds like a wonderful book
Orange Mayor Cr Reg Kidd praised local author Robert Bartlett for his ‘passion for Orange history’ at the book launch of Orange and District - A History in Pictures 2.
Before a crowd of 100 guests at Orange City Library, Mayor Cr Reg Kidd talked about Robert Bartlett’s passion for history and collecting photographs from the community - often saving them from the fate of the rubbish bin.
Local historian Ross Maroney also spoke at the launch about Mr Bartlett’s dedication to preserving local history.
Mr Bartlett thanked Orange City Council for supporting the book, the community for entrusting him with their photographs and his family for their support and encouragement throughout the project.
The book is a hardcover coffee table book consisting of 138 pages with more than 500 black and white, and colour images.
The photographs are captioned with a wealth of information including some new-found history. The photographs date from the 1860s to the 1960s and most have never been published previously. Page titles include: Coaching Days, Parades, Stately Homes, On the Outskirts, Summer Street, East of the Line, Blacksmiths and many more.
Mr Bartlett’s previous books are: Orange and District – A History in Pictures and First Gold – A History of Australia’s First Goldfield, Ophir NSW.
