School holiday activities to end the holidays in style

The school holidays aren’t over yet, and if you’re quick enough your children can still enjoy some of the many exciting activities on offer from Orange City Council.

The Orange Aquatic Centre will be offering intensive swimming lessons for levels 1-4, preschool 1 and 2 as well as a breaststroke workshop for children in level 4 who have completed their freestyle skills. Orange Regional Museum is hosting a free family-centred tour of the exhibition Enemy Aliens: The Dunera boys in Orange, 1941 on Tuesday, April 18. The activity is suitable for kids and adults of all ages. Activities include a scavenger hunt and craft activities inspired by exhibition.

Children aged 8 and over, and an adult can also attend a Showground Sketches drawing workshop on Wednesday, April 19. The workshop will introduce participants to a range of drawing techniques and exercises. Using the Showgrounds as a backdrop, participants will also have a chance to reflect on the story of the Dunera boys and their time in Orange during the Second World War. Orange City Library will be hosting an activity every day. Kids aged 6 years old and over will have plenty of options to choose from.

Lego Club, biscuit decorating and do-it-yourself craft will also be running for free at Orange

City Library during the two weeks period of the school break.

The library has planned a range of exciting activities for kids aged 8 and above during the

second week of the school holidays. These include two screen printing workshops and a

‘Dungeons and Dragons’ activity that will immerse children in the world of fantasy.

To wrap up the school holiday program, there will be a free moving screening of the family

drama Wonder on Friday, April 21, where children and carers can enjoy snacks while watching the movie together.

The Orange Youth Hub at 33 Garema Road will be open to children over the age of 12 every weekday during the holidays. Day trips have been organised, including a trip to the Blue Mountains to participate in a pool tournament with the Blue Mountains Youth Services Team today. A free trip to Odeon 5 cinemas on Friday, April 14 will conclude the first week of the holidays.

A free day trip to Bathurst laser skirmish will take place on Monday, April 17. A pool tournament will be held at the centre on Wednesday, April 19 and a spray-painting activity will conclude their school holiday program on Friday, April 21. Orange Regional Art Gallery will run a series of creative workshops for those children with an arty flair. 

On Thursday 13 April, Artist Sophie Lampert will introduce young artists to her intricately detailed soft sculptures in her current exhibition before guiding them through the process of creating their own wonderfully weird creatures using fabric, beads and sequins. This workshop is dedicated for children aged 11 and over.

On Friday 14 April, during the Sticks and Stones - Drawing and Clay Sculpture with Artist Jaq Davies workshop, young artists aged over 6 years old will explore the work of Laurence

Edwards through a series of drawing exercises before creating their own sculpture using

air dry clay and found materials. 

A Your Story/Our Story – Painting with Artist Sandon Gibbs-O’Neill workshop will be held on

Thursday, April 20 for kids aged over 6 years old. Nhunggabarra artist Sandon Gibbs- O’Neill will introduce young artists to his paintings in the Gallery before guiding them through the process of designing and painting their own symbols on canvas.
