Emerging artists on display at Orange Regional Gallery

The exceptional talents of two emerging artists are currently on display at the Orange Regional Gallery.

Officially opened on Friday, March 24, the two exhibitions are Sandon Gibbs-O'Neill: Burruguu and Sophie Lampert: Anon. 

The latest exhibition from acclaimed local artist Sandon Gibbs-O'Neill features a stunning series of paintings developed in collaboration with his grandfather, Tex Skuthorpe, a renowned Nhunggaburra artist from Nhunggal country in north-western NSW. 

The title Burruguu means ‘time of creation’ in Nhunggal language.  

Through Burruguu, Sandon aims to pay homage to his cultural heritage and share it with the  world through his art. 

The Sophie Lampert: Anon exhibition is the second time a young and emerging artist has been given an opportunity to stage a show as part of ‘The Seed’ program — a partnership between Orange Regional Gallery and the National Art School (NAS) that gives newly graduated artists the chance to have their first solo art show in a public place.  

“Both artists offer unique perspectives that celebrate diversity and inclusion through their  art,” Orange Mayor, Councillor Jason Hamling said.  

“Sophie's soft sculptures celebrate the lives of remarkable women who had unique jobs in  history. She uses pretty beads, shiny sequins, and soft velvet to make her sculptures look like  they come from another world.” 

“Sandon's Burruguu paintings are inspired by traditional stories and paintings and offer a  powerful reflection of the cultural richness of our community.”  

The exhibitions officially opened Friday, March 14 and will be on display until May 7, 2023.
