“Stars” jump their way through March

It’s fun. It’s active. It helps disadvantaged youth. That’s right – it’s the PCYC StarJump Challenge!

Open to all ages — and modifiable if you struggle with mobility — the challenge involves choosing a number of star jumps to do throughout the month of March, and making sure you get them all done.

The not-for-profit organization are seeking superstars and superstar businesses to raise money and keep their important programs running.

The event started on Wednesday, March 1 but it’s not too late to get involved. Simply set yourself a goal, sign up and get sponsors – or find someone already participating and sponsor them today.

And the challenge is run virtually, so you can do it in the comfort of your own home.

And, while not mandatory, participants are encouraged to share photos and videos using the hashtag #pcycstarjumpchallenge

All the money raised in the PCYC StarJump Challenge is used to support the work of the Orange PCYC and its programs to aid our community’s youth.

“Because of our association with the NSW Police a lot of people believe we’re funded by the government, which just isn’t true,” Orange PCYC Club Manager, Jaime Wenban, said.

The club is a not-for-profit organisation that covers its cost largely thanks to generous donations from the public as well as money raised through their club programs such as gymnastics, gym and fitness and music, she said.

The PCYC StarJump Challenge is not only an important fundraiser for the club, but a great way to get kids active, Jaime said.

“Our mission at the PCYC is to get kids active in life, so the StarJump challenge really aligns with that!”

A popular number of star jumps for the challenge is 3,000 which is 100 each day, but whatever the amount the most important thing is just to commit and get involved.

There is no minimum amount required for a donation, and they are tax deductible.

“We want people to get involved as much as they can — even if all you can give is a five-dollar donation – we’re happy with that,” Jaime said.
