Country Club Women excited to be back on their green
Orange Ex-Services’ Club’s (OESC) women bowlers are finally back playing on their own green!
Following a two-and-a-half year shutdown, the renovated Country Club finally reopened to patrons back in June 2022.
And while the club’s bowlers have been aching to get back on their own green, the rain and cold weather that lasted into spring meant the grass bowling green has taken time to get back into playable form.
But last Thursday, February 16, the ladies stepped out to play on their Bloomfield bowling green for the first time in more than three years.
The OESC women's bowls team formed some eight years ago and with their green back, they are eager to welcome new team members to come and join in. There are no age restrictions and everyone, no matter your ability is welcome, club vice president Trish Wilson explained.
“Even if you can’t play, we have coaches who can teach you, bowls you can use,” Trish said.
Game days are held Thursday mornings and the ladies meet at 9am for a 9:30am start, with the option of lunch at the Country Club afterwards for any ladies interested. Coaching days are held every Tuesday.
And there’s opportunities to attend tournaments throughout the year, an exciting moment for some of the team’s more competitive members and a great day to travel and enjoy a day in another town.
“We travel to Canowindra, Parkes, Forbes, Cowra, Manildra, Millthorpe — we do a lot of travel,” Trish said.
If you’d like to join the team, you can contact Trish Wilson 0400 379 294 or Elaine Conner on 0418 675 090. Alternatively, you can search OESC Country Club Women’s Bowls on Facebook,
“It’s a wonderful club,” said public relations officer, Denise Leahy. It’s enjoyable and a fun to get away from!”
