Golfers’ gift to Specialist Palliative Care Service
Orange Specialist Palliative Care Service has been gifted almost $14,000 to help continue their much-needed service, thanks to the generosity of golfers and supporters who participated in last month’s charity golf day.
Held in memory of the late Al Gordon, the charity tournament at the Wentworth Golf Club on March 11, was well-attended and raised a total of $13,843.82 for the service.
Al’s son, Brett Gordon and co-organiser Michael Paddison visited the palliative care team on Tuesday to present the entire proceeds to the Orange Specialist Palliative Care Service — a small team of just eight staff, who do the difficult work of supporting people with a life-limiting illness, along with their families and carers.
For Brett, the donation is just a small way he can thank the team for what they did for his family and for so many others.
“What they did for Dad and myself and my family, was unbelievable,” he said. “We obviously went through a hard time, but they made it that little bit easier to get through it… It takes a special kind of person to do that.”
Not only do the local palliative care team provide support to people in hospital, but also in their own homes or residential aged care facilities, and in the small communities surrounding Orange.
The donated funds will be used to buy specialised equipment to better allow people to be cared for in their own homes.
The Specialist Palliative Care Service asked to give special thanks to the organising committee headed up by Michael Paddison and Brett Gordon, as well as the avid golfers, and sponsors who contributed to the successful day including: Contemporary Home, Connaughton Landscapes Solutions, Robin Hood Hotel, McGrath Orange Estate Agents, Orange City Life Magazine, Canobolas Auto One, Hayjack Painting and Decorating, Anthony Kent, Mitre 10 Orange, PSC Insurance Orange and Wagga, Kiteley’s Roofing World, Tony Leahey Motor Group, Wentworth Pro Shop, Bunnings, Choices Flooring, Empire Strength co., and FB Concreting.
