Workplace safety a focus at Integral Skills
Workplace safety is the first priority of the mining and construction industries.
Getting home from a day’s work in one piece is the most important thing we think about when we send our loved one’s off to work each day.
Ensuring that everyone in our construction and mining industries have the training to achieve this, is the role of one of Orange’s leading training provider, Integral Skills.
“We specialise in training for a range of industries; providing high-risk work licence training and assessments,” Lyndal Molloy, who runs the business with her husband, Matt, said.
“These are things that you’ve simply got to have, our job is to provide the training to make sure that everyone operates safely.”
Lyndal added that, being a locally-run and managed business allows Integral to tailor all their training to the specific needs of construction and mining in the central west.
“Now that we are our own RTO (registered training organisation); all our packages are designed for local industries, so our training is specifically aimed at workers in the region,”.
Courses they run range from basic Yellow and White cards, CPR, working at heights, confined spaces, and entry and supervisor’s courses.
Their high-risk work licence courses cover areas as diverse as forklift (one of their most popular tickets) elevated work platforms, dogging, basic and intermediate rigging, scaffolding, and a range of advanced crane courses.
“Forklift is really popular, we hold two to four a month of these in both our Orange facility, and at our Mudgee facility as well,” Lyndal said.
Matt had previously run a dedicated scaffolding business and saw the increasing importance that safety and accreditation were going to play in the future.
“Matt worked in the mining industry for 30 years; and our team are also all from industry, ensuring you receive relevant knowledge,” Lyndal explained.
Accreditation, she adds, is not the only benefit of these courses, learning new skills is something that we need to encourage our whole working lives. “It’s really important, not just as a requirement to have the tickets, but also for upskilling, keeping you safe, learning on the job, and lifetime learning.
“It’s also making sure you come home safely every day,” Lyndal said.
