Transportable Booths to Revolutionised Outdoor Dining
“We hope people appreciate the concept and make use of the dining booths. I think the community will embrace it”.
Orange City Council’s Future City project has been steadily revealing what they’ve been cooking up behind the scenes in evolving our community’s Central Business District (CBD) for wider appeal. This time, implementing relocatable platform structures designed for outdoor dining and entertainment purposes.
Two booths are designated next to the Blind Pig, with a third underneath a tree along Lords Place in front of the coffee shop Crema on Lords. Costing between $20,000 and $30,000, the booths are expected to greatly benefit the local businesses that are within proximity.
Cr Tony Mileto says, “As part of the Future City program, the Orange City Council is trying to revolutionise the impact of the CBD. Making it more user-friendly for people who want to dine outdoors. Council is trying to think outside of the box through Future City and giving the people a dining experience that’s something different and revolutionary to regional NSW.”
Cr Reg Kidd, Mayor of Orange says, “The best thing about these booths – they are portable. We can try them in many different spots if people want to move them around the CBD. The booths could be placed around Orange depending on the season, whether it’s winter or summer.”
The idea for the booths originated from seeing similar dining structures around Sydney areas in Bondi and Paddington as Cr Mileto says, “We thought since we get a lot of tourists from the city, especially from those areas, we can transport that type of atmosphere to here in Orange. That will complement both tourists and community members to enjoy.”
“It is just fantastic. I believe we’re becoming quite a cosmopolitan city and if you see along the main street where shops have outdoor seating available already – there are always people sitting and using them. I think they will be very popular here in Lords Place and McNamara Lane. There will be people that will dislike it, to begin with. But usually, it is the people who dislike it are usually the first people to try it and say it is pretty good,” Cr Kidd says gleefully.
