Orange Eisteddfod on again and attracting many from the Central West
Thousands of young performers will take to the stage from July 26 in Orange as they show off their drama, music and dance skills at the City of Orange Eisteddfod.
The competition is now a major arts festival running over five weeks at Orange Civic Theatre, Regional Conservatorium and the Function Centre.
Entries are now open and organisers are expecting participants to travel to Orange from around the Central West to take part.
President of the Eisteddfod, Meaghan Cooper said, “While the Eisteddfod is a competition, it is designed to provide performance opportunities for young people who just enjoy stepping out on to the stage, or those who are more serious and use the performance to enhance their experience on their journey to a professional career.”
Although last year’s Eisteddfod was a scaled down event with no audiences, due to the Covid epidemic, there was strict adherence to health guidelines and the Eisteddfod attracted big entries.
“Last year due to restrictions we were not able to hold any of our group sections, so we are thrilled they have been reinstated in the syllabus this year, with strong interested already,” Mrs Cooper said.
Eisteddfod organisers confirm the Orange Eisteddfod provides a major boost to the economy over several weeks.
“Families come to stay, they eat out at our restaurants and shop in Orange.”
