It’s a big week for Pick Me Flowers and Gifts, this week they are celebrating their fifth year of supplying the Orange region with beautiful floral arrangements, and they are also celebrating a change of scenery moving into a new premise on Sale Street.

Owner Jane Hyde employs eight local members of the community and says she couldn’t imagine that she would be where she is today in business.

“Five years ago, I wanted a change in career, I had always been in communications and marketing, and I just got tired of working on computers. I had always loved floristry and I had seen an opportunity in the Orange Arcade that was under development, I took a gamble.. and here we are,” Jane smiled.

“I could barely afford to fill the shop back then, it took me a while to get situated. I was unknown in Orange having moved from New Zealand, so I had to gather a clientele and it’s hard work, people don’t realise how hard it really is.”

Jane continued. “We've grown so much we've actually outgrown our little piece of paradise and have taken the plunge to a bigger and brighter premise. I was offered this shop and I said, I’ll take the gamble. But I think people will love the change. They won’t have seen a florist like this in Orange.

“It’s the first time in five years that I will be able to watch people walk past the shop, have fresh air, direct sunlight and a carpark at the door,” Jane smiled. “But I will absolutely miss the Arcade family.

“Pick Me Flowers is my creative outlet, every day I get to design something new. It’s a lifetime dream that’s come to fruition, it’s the business that drives me, it really is.”

Pick Me Flowers and Gifts have since become a one stop shop. The team are also introducing a mini flowers subscription – which can be subscribed to weekly, fortnightly or monthly. It costs $35 with free delivery and you’ll receive mini flower bouquet and a glass vase that’s ready to go, you can put it on your work desk, on your kitchen table, on your bench – wherever you want. “It would be great for a gift idea,” said Jane.

“We have always had the stock, but we have expanded our gift range to include homewares and pots, local handmade jewellery, hats, handbags and more.”

Jane proudly states that most of the stock is Australian, and even better she is supporting locals within our smaller community including pottery artist, Emily Laszuk. Not only that, Jane does a lot behind the scenes within the community whether it be donating teddy bears to the Children’s Ward at the Orange Health Service, or supporting the Hospital Auxiliary with balloons, flowers and giftware. She is proud to do it all.

Jane added, “I’m proud that we are still here five years later, that we have grown and that the community support that we receive. You’ve got to swing with the times, and I’ve diversified what our shop is all about frequently. I have terrific staff, and I am proud to extend myself and employ one staff member through Life Without Barriers.”

Pick Me Flowers and Gifts don’t just keep up with the latest trends, they’re busy creating them using stunning natives, classic favourites and original arrangements.

“If you’re looking for a touch of luxury, we’ve teamed up with some of the best local businesses to bring you wine from award winners See Saw Wines,” added Jane.

The team will be hosting a number of opening specials on their new range of goodies so make sure you keep an eye on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
