Orange’s Biggest Garage Sale supporting an even bigger area of need
“Well, I woke up one morning and said to my wife, ‘I've got an idea!’” said Graeme Fleming, from the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak and the instigator of what is being hailed Orange’s Biggest Garage Sale.
“But it’s not just your average garage sale; it is going to be a big event!” said Graeme. “There will be close to 3000 items there and we’ll fill the Naylor Pavilion at the showground.”
The sale is being put on by the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak as a fundraiser for local grassroots men’s health groups.
“It’s a big push from our club to help local, community men's health groups so we are not necessarily looking to fund large government funded organisations,” said Graeme.
“The proceeds this year will be going in four main areas: to the prostate Cancer Support Group, the Orange Men's Shed, the Orange Aboriginal Men's Health Group, and Orange Regional Suicide Prevention Network.”
All the items for sale have been donated, so the entire proceeds will be used to support the four men’s groups.
“So whatever we sell, all the proceeds can be contributed to the community,” said Rotarian Stuart Smith, who has been busy collecting items for the sale.
“It’s not your average garage sale, it is going to be a monster and there'll be no rubbish there!”
While the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak are still accepting donations for the garage sale, they must be quality items, said Graeme.
“Yes. we are still accepting things, but we want to emphasise that we are not selling rubbish, it is only good quality items that will sell,” he said.
“The range of things that have been donated is incredible! It ranges from the kitchen sink, to a coffin! And we've got all sorts of stuff in between: lots of good camping, outdoor and gardening stuff. Old wares, furniture, and we have a lot of vintage and retro clothing there'll big a big feature of that.”
The sale will run from 8am to 2pm, Saturday 27 March at the Naylor Pavilion.
“We'll have coffee there. We've got a barbecue for breakfast and lunch and there will be music from the Central West Brass Band at different sessions throughout the day. So it will be a really good day out!”
