Summer reading event at the Library
Central West Libraries are inviting children to join in its summer reading event, their ‘One Library One Book’ – Kids community reading project.
A school holiday adventure for the kiddos, library staff are encouraging children borrow a copy of ‘How to Make a Movie in 12 Days’ by Fiona Hardy and join in the library adventure.
The book tells the story of Hayley Whelan, a suburban 11-year-old and amateur filmmaker who has all the ingredients of a great movie – a thrilling horror screenplay, a spooky set, high quality props and a stellar actress. So, what could possibly go wrong? As she and her friends embark on their tight film schedule, things do start to go wrong. Is someone trying to sabotage her movie?
Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said the Central West Libraries’ reading team looked at many books before settling on this one. “How to make a movie in 12 days fits the bill perfectly, combining mystery, a love of spooky movies and friendships that are tested by the challenges of making a real movie in the summer school holidays,” Cr Kidd said.
“When a book makes you laugh out loud and you just have to keep on reading, you know it’s a winner.”
“Central West Libraries has put together a great range of events connected with the book including meeting the author via video link, filmmaking and animation workshops, tricky trivia and the chance to see your short film at a special screening,” he said.
Pick up a copy of the book at any Central West Libraries’ branch, read it, participate in the conversation and join the fun. It is essential to book for events and enjoy it all for free!
One Library One Book – Kids will run until February and events will be held throughout January, with bookings to be made through Eventbrite.
