Blayney States World’s Best
What was set up to be a prank on their school Principal. Year Six class members at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary in Blayney staged an ‘incident’ on the playground which led them being ‘sent to the Principal.’
Little did Principal Mrs Kerrie Basha know, the year group had other plans and the entire school and staff were in on it.
“It was priceless,” School Captain, Poppie Irlam explained. “Everyone knew except Mrs Basha. We had to pretend that something had happened on the playground and that we were in trouble.
“We surprised her for National Principal’s Day and it was our Year 6 class that gave Mrs Basha her flowers and a one of a kind trophy card which read, ‘World’s Best.’
“When we actually handed over the gifts she jumped and was laughing. I wish we got it on camera because it was very funny,” Poppie laughed.
With Mrs Basha joining the St Joseph’s family a little under a year ago, it’s evident to see the impact she has had on the students.
“We love Mrs Basha, she’s one of those Principals that gets involved with everything. Last year she danced with us in a rain dance in relation to the drought.
She is a lot of fun, we’ve done a lot more this year than what we’ve ever done and a lot more opportunities have been given to us.”
Year five student, Eamon Miskell added, “She’s so happy all of the time too.”
Mrs Basha laughed, “I didn’t even know that it was National Principal’s day for a start, I’ve never celebrated it before. It was the first time for me so that made it even more special.
It also coincided with the fact I had announced I wouldn’t be leaving at the end of the year, I was staying. So, to me it was a win- win. I was really touched, just the fact that they thought to do something or to recognise the day was really special and look at my trophy, how good is that!
“They did get me good,” Mrs Basha admitted, “We’ve played a few tricks on teachers this year, so this was their chance to get me back, and they certainly did. They better be careful because it’s my turn now to come back with something.”
Well played St Josephs, Blayney!
