Anson Street Celebrate Canada Day

Anson Street School paid homage to their Canadian exchange Teacher by celebrating Canada Day on July 1.
Rick Ramada has been a part of the Anson Street family since December 2019 and admitted the temperature difference was the biggest shock when we arrived.

“When I flew into Australia I flew straight up to Cairns and saw the Great Barrier Reef, I went from -25 at home to +35 degrees so that was a bit of a shock for sure, but I loved it, it was so beautiful,” said Rick.

“The support and encouragement that I have received from the staff here has been amazing, they’ve really taken me in and really shown me what it’s like to be a Teacher here and made me feel very welcome and supported, and of course the students are incredible, I’ve actually learned a lot from teaching them.

“I’m very grateful that everyone has shown such enthusiasm for Canada Day and I’m very impressed how the whole school has come together to celebrate.”

Anson Street Teacher, Sarah Gilchrist added, “This is our first time having an exchange teacher at Anson Street School, so it’s exciting for us. Rick is missing home a little bit and we thought what a perfect opportunity for the students to learn about a different culture and a different country.”

Staff were treated to a special Canadian lunch from Smoking Brothers and Rick spoke to different classes about Canadian culture, celebrating with a Canadian breakfast and a game of Lacrosse. The hallways were decorated with Canadian flag bunting, with students and teachers also dressing in Canadian colours for the day.
