Clancy Tops the Charts
It’s one thing to release your very first single, it’s another to become an iTunes country chart topper the very same day. Orange local (we claim her as our own sorry Oberon), Clancy Pye has done just that and remains completely humble about the whole experience.
Clancy’s debut single ‘Get Lost’ came out on Friday last week and it didn’t take long for it to skyrocket above the familiar household names that country fans love.
“I very much grew up on country music.” Clancy explained, “I’ve studied the writers that I look up to and for the past 10 years I’ve really honed in on my song writing and have been working on a collection of songs that people can relate to and enjoy. I guess I got to the point last year where I felt I was starting to get some songs together that people would potentially like.”
“It’s terrifying,” Clancy laughed, “It’s taken me a while to figure out my own sound and own direction, I think in the industry it’s very easy to try and want to be like someone else, but I really wanted to carve my own path and let my songs be the driver of that I suppose.
“From a song writing point of view, 10 years ago I would have loved to have released music, but I didn’t feel like my song writing was at a level that I would feel comfortable to release my own music, so I wanted to put in a few years and get them to a higher standard. I kept writing and kept writing, it’s a process of just honing your skills and trying to develop something a little better than the last thing you wrote. When I first heard the final mastered track of the album it was a really special feeling, it felt like a very big accomplishment.”
When Clancy’s single became number one it was a very proud sister who delivered the news. “I definitely did not expect anything like this to happen. I just couldn’t believe it to be honest. It just goes to show the power of the people, there’s been a lot of communities around the Central West that I’ve been playing in front of for a lot of years and they’ve stuck with me and they got on board when I was ready to release.”
Clancy mentioned this lockdown period has been the longest period that she’s had off performing live since she was probably 12 years old. “I’ve actually enjoyed taking a step back, I am missing it for sure but at the time it’s given me more time on getting the EP out, because it’s been a big project. When everything is back to normal, it will be about getting back out there singing again.”
Clancy’s next single, ‘Heaven Can’t Wait’ will be released in the next few months. With her EP to be released around August.
“I’m incredibly thankful for anyone who has ever turned up to a gig and followed me from when we first started playing music. The support has been incredible and very unexpected but I wanted to say a big thankyou to the Central West for really supporting the song and myself. It’s really nice to represent our area in country music.”
