March 12: H.M.S. Pinafore

Set sail on the high seas with Gilbert & Sullivan’s beloved comedy of star-crossed lovers, mismatched marriages and mistaken identities. Award winning director, Kate Gaul, makes her Hayes Theatre Co debut with this re-imagined, gender-bending, hyper-theatrical and kinky take on this Gilbert & Sullivan classic. March 13: Taylor Henderson Live at Orange Civic Theatre

Taylor Henderson, the multi-platinum selling artist, live at the Orange Civic Theatre.
In this special two-hour concert Taylor performs both his original music and a tribute to his greatest influence, Ed Sheeran.
In the first set Taylor performs award winning hits from his platinum selling albums ‘Taylor Henderson’ and ‘Burnt Letters' plus a selection of songs from singer-songwriters that have shaped his world of music today.
In the second set Taylor performs the greatest hits from Ed Sheeran's history making albums 'x, + and ÷' featuring songs such as ‘Lego House’, ‘Thinking Out Loud’, ‘Shape Of You’ and many more.

March 14: RAHS Orange Regional Seminar

The Royal Australian Historical Society (RAHS) is staging one of its popular regional seminars in conjunction with Central West Libraries. It will appeal to anyone who wishes to learn more about historical records relating to land titles, discovering the secrets cemeteries can reveal, as well as how to use Trove (the National Library of Australia’s free online database). Cost - $20 (includes morning tea & lunch).

March 14: Orange Farmer’s Market at the Northcourt

Lovers of local produce are invited to meet the growers and enjoy breakfast while shopping for fresh bread, veggies, fruit, meats as well as preserved goods. Gold coin entry goes towards local projects supported by Rotary Daybreak. Dogs welcome on tight leads and with adult supervision.

March 14: Colour for Cancer (Cardiac Cath Lab Stars of Orange fundraiser)

The Cath Lab Girls are going pink for Cancer! Come enjoy a fun-filled afternoon at the Oriana, where cocktails will be available for purchase while the girls go pink to raise money for the Cancer Council.
$10 donation at the door will get you a glass of champagne on arrival.

March 17: Dining with Matthew Evans

Join Mathew Evans, aka the Gourmet Farmer, for a two-course dinner at the Old Convent.
Matthew is a chef by trade and Tasmanian smallholder by choice. March 27 – 5 April Orange F.O.O.D Week

Orange F.O.O.D Week kicks off on March 27 with the iconic Night Market, featuring stall representing the Orange region's chefs, cooks, caterers, providores, wine, cider and beer makers, with a focus on the provenance of our local produce.

EXHIBITIONS

Orange Art Society Exhibit

Members of the Orange Art Society have been throwing paint at canvas with great vigour this past month and their efforts are on display until April 10.  This month’s feature artist Hank Spirek’s exhibition will focus on a variety of ‘bird motif’ works executed in oil on canvas and mixed mediums on paper. Birds, executed in various styles, have been a favourite and popular topic of Hank’s art throughout his 50-year career. The exhibition is now open to the public at the Orange Cultural Centre. Hank will hold an official exhibition opening on March 14 from 2-4pm.

Salvatore Zofrea: Days of Summer

In 2012, Salvatore Zofrea donated a complete edition from his Days of Summer woodblock series to Orange Regional Gallery. This selection from the original donation of 40 prints presents an extraordinary celebration of flora and fauna in Australia over the summer season.

Collection Highlights

Orange Regional Gallery presents some iconic and well-loved works in the Gallery’s collection alongside recent acquisitions. Works have been selected from the Mary Turner and Chroma collections as well as from the general collection.

The installation features paintings and drawings by Modern artists including Grace Cossington Smith, Ian Fairweather, and Brett Whiteley alongside works by contemporary artists such as Kevin Connor, Harrie Fasher, Emily Kngwarreye, Margaret Loy Pula, Luke Sciberras​ and David Serisier.
