People of O-Town – Rick Hollingworth
I was born in South Australia, in Renmark in the Riverland. I've been here in Orange eight years now and I love it! My mother's here, my brother's here, my entire family is here and I love the Orange community.
I wasn't interested in technology at all, but I ended up in Sydney working for Xerox and then for Cisco and Dell — some very good companies. I started in customer service, then went into pre-sales, pre-sales manager and then into telco roles and managed services for other large organisations.
For the past two years I’ve been fulltime in my own start-up business; an app designed as an easy way for older people to keep up to date with family, friends, community and services.
Seniors are just as interested in taking up technology as anyone else, I just don't think we take enough time to explain and show it to them.
When you can sit there with a senior, who is living by themselves, and a mobile phone and you can connect them to a loved one, show them how to send a text or get a photo… when you can do that and help someone it is a pretty good feeling and it can really make a difference in someone’s life.
I believe technology is about solving issues that help people; there is no point in doing it just for the sake of doing it.
