Other activities on the day include; tug of war, the popular Beard Competition and A King, Queen, Prince and Princess will be crowned on the day.. there is so much happening!

Whilst the day is all about having a bit of fun, an underlying reason and cause is being represented. Redhead Hut4HD was created as a way to raise funds and awareness of Huntington Disease, an inherited brain disorder that affects hundreds of families across the state.

“Most people know my story about my mum passing away at 50, as well as other family members of mine diagnosed. It is a very complex disease with lots of different facets affecting different families. I really want to get the gravity that these families go through, its often not one or two, its five, six or seven spread out over generations who are all positive. It’s not like any other disease. Its never-ending, there’s no treatment, no cure.

“Mum was a fabulous redhead and that's where the idea came from. It’s my way of remembering my Mum.”

Proceeds from the day will go to HD Awareness Orange, whose mission is to create education and awareness, in Orange and the Central West Region. HD Awareness Orange will be putting together medical packs with information and guides relating the HD, including genetic counselling books and the Huntington’s unit at Westmead hospital. They will be distributing these packs around the Central West.

In the hope of raising a goal of $5,000, Rachael added, “I’m really looking forwards to the relaxed family atmosphere and sharing the love with gingers in our town of Orange.”
