Fostering positive relations
On Monday 27th May 2019 students from Euchareena Public School and St Joseph’s Molong gathered to commemorate ‘Sorry Day’ as part of National Reconciliation Week (NRW). Students and staff shared a BBQ lunch together, listened to a story about The Stolen Generation and watched a movie about Aboriginal Culture, history and The Stolen Generation. The afternoon was led by Fleur Magick Dennis. Fleur is an Aboriginal parent at our school and a member of the Euchareena community as well as an active member of the Molong AECG. We are lucky enough to have weekly Wiradjuri language and culture lessons for our students that Fleur delivers.
NRW is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
At the heart of reconciliation is the relationship between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. To foster positive race relations, our relationship must be grounded in a foundation of truth.
