CWA Central Western Group Handicraft and Land Cookery Competitions
Each year CWA Central Western group hold a Handicraft Competition and Cookery Competition.
Members from the branches submit items, judged as the best from the branch to Group where the items are judged again, against the best from other branches.
Emu Swamp CWA member, Debbie Thomas said, “It’s quite a historic event with the Central West CWA, it comprises of two groups from Bathurst, one from Cowra, Canowindra, Millthorpe, Cudal and quite a few others.”
“There are quite a few different sections and categories, the emphasis is on natural fibres and the CWA as a group Australia wide, try to promote natural fabrics and fibres, so there’s lots of wool and cotton. Sections include; a hand-made item made of wool, embroidery and patch work. Everybody tries to do their best work with the hope they will make it on to the state competition, which this year will be in Albury.”
Judging will be held for the competition in the Orange CWA rooms at 9am on Monday March 11.
The items will then be on display at Orange Library for the rest of the week until Friday at 1pm when winners are announced at the Library.
The Cookery competition, sponsored by ‘The Land’ is judged at the CWA rooms on Friday March 15, at 9am and the winner is announced at the Library on Friday at approximately 1pm. (The cookery items are not displayed.)
