Drivers urged to avoid highway repairs
Drivers in Orange are being encouraged to plan ahead and avoid the block of the Mitchell Highway (Woodward Street) between Prince and March Streets on Friday this week.
Orange City Council crews were quickly on the scene last week to make temporary repairs after water from a broken water main damaged the road.
A contractor will be back at the site on Friday (29 March) to replace the temporary surface with hot-mix asphalt. Depending on the weather, the work may continue on Saturday.
One southbound lane of the highway will be closed from 9am to 3pm on Friday. The roadwork is being timed to avoid impact on nearby schools and peak commuting periods.
The other southbound lane will remain open, but drivers should expect delays and encouraged to use alternative routes if possible.
Traffic control staff and electronic message boards will be used to alert traffic in the area.
