Lauren Slater - People of O-Town
“I was born in England, raised in Cairns and went to university for Veterinary science in Townsville before moving to Orange in 2017 to start work at Canobolas Family Pet Hospital.
Anyone who gets into my line of work needs to be passionate about animals and animal care. Throughout my schooling I did any assignments I could on animals and animal welfare, and when a local vet rescued some lion cubs, I knew that Veterinary science was for me.
I'm a triple citizen. As I said I was born in England, but I am half Kiwi as well. I became an Australian Citizen in high school. I'm a big fan of basketball, reading and music. I have recently joined the Orange Theatre Company and am in the production ‘RENT’ so that is what I’m doing most afternoons at the moment and I'm loving it! I can't wait for everyone to see it in May.
I have thousands of wonderful memories with my family and friends, all of the shows, concerts and musicals I've seen (I had goose bumps the whole way through for The Lion King) and my graduation was a big one too. But I think I'll have to go with my recent trip to Europe - it was six weeks of constant movement with my sister so it pretty well all blurred into one memory, but it was fantastic experiencing new places, people and cultures in real life. I did ancient history at school so seeing places come to life was wonderful.
Hopefully, in the future, I will have done some more travelling and chosen my place to settle. I'm liking Orange's chances though, I absolutely love it here.”
