Local Tradie Rewarded
Being an apprentice is hard work and sticking it out to the end can be tough, but this apprentice is on his way to completing his training and has now been recognised for all of his hard work along the way. Each year CWA Central Western Group provide an award to the most deserving fourth year apprentice that’s employed through Skillset, covering all industries.
This year’s recipient is Alex Thomas, Alex works as a Carpenter with the Orange City Council.
CWA Group Publicity Officer, Christine McIlvain said she was pleased to announce Alex as this year’s recipient and says the scholarship is a great help for apprentices.
“The CWA of the Central West Group have had this award going since 1997. We are very happy to be able to present the award every year, it’s nice to acknowledge the hard work that young people do, and to be rewarded for their great efforts.”
The CWA Branch fund this Scholarship Award by raising funds at the Australian National Field Days where they host a ‘Tea Room.’
Skillset Senior Workforce Consultant, Jacqui Sands said she couldn’t think of a more worthy recipient. “The whole time throughout Alex’s apprentice there has been no issue, he has gone through all of his training with no hitches what-so-ever, he’s just a star,” Jacquie smiled, “He is a really great worker.”
Alex added, “I was very happy to hear I was the recipient; I deserve it,” Alex laughed. “I enjoy what I do, it’s all varied, there’s something different every day and I like that about it.”
“I’d like to thank the CWA Branch for spoiling us with a delicious spread of lunch and thankyou to Skillset for the recognition.”
Orange City Council Building Supervisor, Jacob Sands added, “We are happy to be able to provide Alex with the opportunity to complete a four year apprenticeship in carpentry and provide him with the opportunity to receive this award through Skillset.
We are hopeful to continue our relationship with Skillset, providing the community and people with traineeships and apprenticeships.”
Alex has taken up a 12-month contract with Council next year with full-time employment. All the best Alex!
