Young drivers get free training in vital road safety skills

Young Orange Drivers have the opportunity to learn vital road safety skills this weekend, thanks to Ford’s Driving Skills for Life course.

The free Driving Skills for Life course is coming to Orange for the first time this Sunday, 24 November, and it focuses on skills beyond what is taught during L-plate driver instruction.

Designed for new and young drivers, the course offers hands-on training delivered by professional instructors to help participants become safer drivers. It aims to increase use of safe and calm driving techniques as well as teach new drivers how to share the road with other vehicles and cyclists.

“On the road, there’s nothing more important than safety. By helping new and young drivers to develop safe driving techniques, we’re hoping to make the road safer for everyone and give participants the best possible start to a lifetime of driving,” said Kay Hart, CEO of Ford Australia and New Zealand.

“While each year cars get safer and safer, Australia’s road toll has increased over recent years, which indicates the importance of teaching safe driving techniques to the next generation of drivers.”

Driving Skills for Life combines hands-on cycling VR simulations and tests the limits with ABS and Stability Control in a controlled environment. The program also includes the Ford Impairment Suit which mimics the affects alcohol has on our bodies.

The free Driving Skills for Life course will take place at the Orange Go Kart Track, Perc Griffith Way, on Sunday 24 October. There will be two sessions starting at 8.30am and 12.30pm.
