Why wouldn’t Wangarang feel chuffed?

Here’s another one of those stories that remind us again just what a great heart Orange has.

Orange Ex-Services’ Club have just announced that they have come on board as the major sponsor for the community charity event, the ‘Orange Ex-Services’ Club Wangarang Industries Charity Golf Day’ to be held on Friday February 1, at Duntryleague golf course.

The event is in its 9th year which continues to provide a social occasion and a chance for all to work together for a common goal of making a difference for the workers at Wangarang Industries.

This year the major aim of the event is to fund the installation of air-conditioning at the Wangarang Industries workshop on Forest Road. The projected cost is between $20,00 and $30,000.

Orange Ex-Services’ Club President Graham Gentles said a funding injection of $3,000 from the Club concretes the already strong relationship between the community organisations.

“Our sponsorship for this golf challenge is an example of how the Club seeks to support the community in meaningful ways, such as ClubGRANTS. And we look forward to a great year supporting Wangarang and hope this is just the beginning,” said Mr Gentles.

Wangarang Industries Chief Executive Officer Kevin McGuire said he wanted to make a demonstratable difference with the major charity event this year.

“With the air-conditioning project, we want the community to see that we’re working together towards a vision and project that’s going to directly benefit the Wangarang team.

“It will allow us to promote and provide a safe and comfortable work place for our supported employees,” Mr McGuire said.

There are over 90 workers in the sheds at any one time, assisting with jobs such as mailing and packing, assembly and wine re-labelling for local businesses.

“When we built the shed, we never envisaged we’d need to put in cooling. At the moment, there are fans to circulate the heat in winter, but we’re now looking towards the future and investing in a system to cool in summer as the demand grows for our services,” Mr McGuire said.

The Orange Ex-Services’ Club Wangarang Industries Charity Golf Challenge is a 4-Person Ambrose event, with a shotgun start from 12pm. The event is set to include an auction, raffles and BBQ lunch all supporting Wangarang Industries.
