Denise McDonald - Walk a mile in these shoes
Name: Denise McDonald
Tell me about your job and why you pursued a career in it?
I am the Member Liaison Manager for First Choice Credit Union, basically I look after our memberβs needs, if they have any questions, need assistance with their accounts, investments or loans, I am the one they come to. I started with First Choice as the agent at Cabonne Council's Cudal office as a teller, then moved to the Sale Street office doing loans. My roles have changed over the last 10 years, but I have enjoyed each different job.
Any career highlights?
When I first started doing loans, I was so pleased to be helping our members to get that new car, house or holiday etc. Now I am helping them to look after their accounts, paying bills etc.
What would be a usual day for you?
Helping members with internet banking or the app, replacing lost/stolen cards, creating investments or different accounts, anything members need.
What do you love most about your job?
The interaction with the members. I get paid to do a lot of talking (laughs).
What is something that people might not know about your job?
I am also the secretary for the Board of Directors and PA to the General Manager.
Other than work, tell me a bit about yourself, your interests and hobbies?
I am involved in the Cudal Musical and Dramatic Society, we put on a play every year or so, it is great fun. I am also a registered marriage celebrant and am so privileged to be able to perform weddings, it is such a happy job and I love it! I am the secretary for the Anglican Parish of Cudal too. In the near future I am looking forward to going part time, so I can spend more time conducting weddings and getting the garden in good shape.
What is your favourite thing to do?
At the moment it is being in the garden, I am finally getting some things done and love the satisfaction of a job well done.
How do you start your day?
I start my week day with exercise 6am each morning, boot camp twice a week, Barre Class, Zumba Strong and a walk.
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
We are going to Finland in December to hopefully see the northern lights, go for a sleigh ride with the reindeer and huskies and visit Santa's village. It will be freezing but I can't wait. There are still a few more places to visit on the bucket list.
