Barry and Debbie Eltham like helping people out.

The husband-and-wife team provide a unique indoor and outdoor cleaning service for locals in the Colour City.

Their business follows what used to be called a “traditional” division of labour, Debbie is mistress of this inside, Barry master of the outdoor duties.

“I can do rubbish removal, handyman, lawn-mowing, gardening and pruning, gutter cleaning, painting… any odd-jobs you want done… Debbie does a fantastic job inside,” Barry explained.

“She does domestic cleaning, we don’t do commercial or industrial, just houses and the like,”” Barry added.

Having run a lawn-mowing business for a number of years, Barry decided to spread his wings to cover the quiet times during the Central Tablelands winters.

“It was when the grass stopped growing, that I decided I needed to diversify… now Debbie does the domestic cleaning for many of her older clients, while I do the outsides,” he said.

Success of their team has meant that Debbie, who has to rush-off to a job during our interview, remains flat-out for much of the year.

“Debbie, because she is working indoors which is not affected by the weather, is flat-out a lot of the time,” Barry said.

The two enjoy the beneficial nature of the work and the difference they make to people’s lives and comfort.

“We’ve been doing this for almost four years, we like helping people. We both get quite attached to people and always try and do the best job we can,” Barry explained.

“My Dad always told me, ‘a job worth doing, is worth doing well’, that’s my work ethic. I like gardening and fixing things and I don’t mind a bit of hard-work,” he added.

Enjoying the great outdoors, Barry believes that variety is ultimately the spice of life: “That’s why I enjoy my work, the variety. You are always doing something different every day,” Barry concluded.
