Little Wings to benefit from Orange Farmers Market

The Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak are set to donate proceeds from their ‘Feb 13th’ Orange Farmers Market gate takings to the small charity, Little Wings.

Little wings are based at Bankstown Aerodrome, providing free daily air and ground transport for seriously ill children, residing in regional and rural NSW. The charity works to ensure they are providing consistent access to life-saving medical treatment via the Sydney Children’s Network and John Hunter Children’s Hospital.

They aim to minimise travel fatigue, financial burden and emotional strain associated with frequent travel to and from large cities. All the while, keeping families united and enhancing a child’s recovery in the comfort of the family home.

President of Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak, Sue Moffatt said she knows how difficult it continues to be holding fundraising events during this time, so she thought this was a great way for the club to help with a local charity alongside its importance of helping seriously ill children in regional and rural NSW.

“We heard the story of local boy Dylan, who has made many trips with Little Wings from Orange to Westmead Hospital and back, for ongoing treatment,” said Sue. “Dylan mentioned the thought of bumpy roads were too much to bear on his recovering body, and the Little Wings service allowed him to avoid these concerns time after time, easing his mind and building confidence in his frequent journeys.”

The COVID period meant Little Wings was hit hard, losing all funding overnight, as they struggled to continue their service. Little Wings Chief Executive Officer, Clare Pearson explained, “It has been the generous donations and commitment of our communities, both near and far, that has kept us in the air and supporting families in desperate need. This is why we are so deeply honoured to have the support of the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak whose support will fund flights for local families.”

Clare continued, “We are so excited for the opportunity to be a part of the February Orange Farmers Market. We encourage locals to come down to Northcourt and meet our team, learn about Little Wings and children can jump on board our Little Wings peddle plane to experience the ride.”
