Celebrating 30 Years with Christmas in July

Last week the Ladies Probus Club of Orange North celebrated their 30th Anniversary at the Oriana with a Christmas in July themed lunch.

An exciting day in itself, the Probus club also had four original members who were there during the very first meeting, 30 years ago in attendance; Joyce Onley, Grace Moad, Helen James and Marie McMullen.

Joyce Onley explained, “It has been a very happy time in the club. You meet some wonderful people and we have had some very interesting speakers over the years, as well as trips away. We go to Sydney to see musical productions quite often and the club has recently been away to New Zealand.”

“It does make me feel a bit old,” Marie McMullen laughed. “I’ve been on so many of the trips away and I’ve enjoyed them all. I’d have to say I will always remember the trip we took up the coast to a lovely garden, it was just beautiful.”

“This club is a wonderful opportunity for people who are retired to go places and meet new people. It’s really enjoyable, we have had a lot of fun over the years. It’s good to have something like this, when you can mix with people around your age.”

President Gail Darley added, “Our club is all about fun, friendship and fellowship. We meet every third Wednesday at Duntryleague with a guest speaker, which we then go for lunch afterwards. We actually have 10 people on the waiting list, we have to turn people away we are so full. I think because we are a very social club and are always busy with activities, we have strong numbers.”

Happy 30 years Ladies Probus Club of Orange North, another happy 30 to come!
