Westfund Grant opportunities officially open

Round One of Westfund Health Insurance’s Community Grants Program for 2019 is officially open with eligible community organisations being encouraged to apply for a share of $120,000 in annual grants. The program also includes Westfund’s Here for Hearts program, which provides access to defibrillators for eligible organisations.

The program launched in 2018 and has exceeded all expectations.

One previous application that stood out was from Borenore/Nashdale Men’s Shed. The group were successful in their application for a defibrillator through the program after identifying a need for the device to provide peace of mind for the Shed’s older membership. The Shed is located 17 kilometres from the nearest medical assistance and in the case of sudden cardiac arrest, every second counts.

Members of the Shed welcomed Westfund Regional Manager Nicole Buesnel to the shed to find out a little bit more about what they do. Nicole was pleased to present the group with their defibrillator which will one day may save a life. Shed members are hoping that in reality, it gets very little use.

“Personally, I hope that it sits on the shelf and never gets used,” said president Max Davidson.

Community groups who may be eligible for a Westfund Community Grant are encouraged to apply online at www.westfund.com.au/grants

Applications close on 30 June.
