Bikers combine fun with doing good! - Stories from the Heart of Orange
The third annual ‘Ride Blue’ Fundraising observation ride will be hosted by the Orange Classic and Café Racer Club on April 28.
This year’s ‘Ride Blue’ will be raising money for a local woman who is a dear friend of the club, she battles a rare form of Leukaemia and as of more recently, breast cancer.
Club Treasurer, Andrew Owens said, “I know it seems strange fundraising for a lady whom we aren’t naming, though what I will say is that she is a small business owner who has been doing it hard for quite a while, so we feel she is very deserving in that situation.”
The Orange Classic and Café Racers have been a club for four years now, their very first ‘Ride Blue’, three years ago raised money for Beyond Blue and the second year for FoodCare Orange. As a club, they have raised over $34,000.
Club President, Steve Doherty added “We have classed ourselves as a bit of a men’s health club. We meet once every fortnight for breakfast. We have about 30 members both male and female, we are about getting your bike out of the shed and meeting other riders.”
The ‘Ride Blue’ event is a challenge observation ride (a bit like a treasure hunt- without the treasure), riders will travel to Euchareena, Molong, Garra, Manildra, Cudal, back to Molong for a catered lunch (included in the $25 cost.)
“We hope to raise around $1,000 and donated gifts. We are proud to know that 100% of what we raise goes to someone local, and its will be spent local, as well as the gifts we get will be used by as local and donated by local businesses too.”
Participants will meet at 9:30am at Food @ the Grove (Harvey Norman carpark). For a little more added incentive there will be trophies for; best bike on display, observation winner and best observation photo.
