Big Scale Fun, Small Scale Cars

Are you the off-road racing type? Think that, but on a smaller scale - same amount of fun. If so, the local Orange Radio Control Car Club is for you. The not for profit club is a chance for you to get away from the everyday and bring out that inner child or daredevil of yours.

Publicity Officer, Gavin Kilian said, “The racing is great fun and the club itself is also fun. You’ll hear us laughing like a bunch of kids when we are out there, it’s just great to get away and be surrounded by likeminded people.”

“We are constantly racing one another though it’s all in the name of fun, what we like to call friendly competition.”

Gavin mentioned he was 15 years old when he first discovered the sport. “I had seen the cars years ago and I remember my friend said he was getting one, so I thought well I’ve got the money for one too, so I brought one with him. We used to muck around at the netball courts with them.”

Eventually word got out that a club was being started, which is now known as the Orange Radio Control Car Club. “I’ve been a member since I was 17 years old and have always felt welcome, the racing is divided into classes so for the newbies, we create a novice class so they can get a feel for the track.”

Another great thing about the club is that any money from entry fees or club memberships, goes into the running of the club and the maintenance of the track (which has just recently been updated.) It’s a win-win!

Anyone who comes out is bound to get some sort of enjoyment from the club, no one will feel left out, we are always so happy to be there racing cars and talking ‘car talk’, we all speak the same language,” Gavin laughed.

Racing happens every second Sunday of every month, at 204 Mulyan Road Clergate (opposite the Motocross Track). Contact the club on 6360 3003 or Gavin on 0431 272 248 for more information.

Happy racing!

For all of you off road gurus - the club race 1/8 off road with a complete AMB transponder timing system. They also let 1/10 race if there are numbers on the day.
