A Fresh New Look for FoodCare

OC Life has shared FoodCare Orange’s story from the beginning, so, we too are excited about their new beginning. We visited the new space on their official ‘first day’ and we were greeted with many smiling faces from both clients and volunteers, we couldn’t wait to check it out.

March Street was buzzing with excitement last week as some special new residents re-opened their doors to the public for the first time in their new premises.

FoodCare Orange have moved their supermarket from Glenroi Community Centre to 142 March St.
The move will ensure a central location for all to access and longer opening hours will allow more to take advantage of what help FoodCare can offer.

FoodCare committee member, Emma Dresser said, “It’s nice to have it all done, it’s been in the pipeline for a long time. Our volunteers have done a staggering amount of work, we wouldn’t have been able to do it without their support, they are amazing and are just incredibly generous with their time.”

The supermarket is now in a much bigger, brighter space, with more of a street front which the volunteers are quite happy about.

“We love the new space, it’s fantastic, its massive compared to what we had and its lovely to be so central. In the old place we have to put everything away and put it back out again the next day, here it’s always open, so we are much more flexible.”

“It’s great to be much closer to other community agencies across town and having more parking options, along with our community bus, it allows customers to come from all over, so we are much more central for everyone now.”

With the new space, it is the hope that community customers can walk in and out to get their groceries and not line up like they had to previously. The supermarket still has fresh fruit, vegetables and groceries along with household items, we even spotted party items, books and school supplies.

“We are already seeing some new faces which is excellent, they are really embracing the new space.”
