Saying NO to ICE!

Round About Central West will host Community Forums in Orange over two days in September to tackle the issue of ICE use.

Titled ‘ICE: Not Once Not Ever’, the Forums aim to empower teenagers and the broader community with the ability to say ‘no’ to the lure of the readily available drug, or to identify use in their very own street.

There will be four keynote speakers on the day: Accident and Emergency - talking about what they encounter and what their experiences are, Drug and Alcohol representatives speaking on the effect it has on the body/brain, Police speaking  and General Manager of the Hader Clinic, and recovered ICCE addict- Jackson Oppy.

Detective Inspector Bruce Grassick Crime Manager, Central West Police District said, “I’ll be talking about ICE in relation to a law enforcement perspective. I will touch on meth amphetamine labs, backyard labs, the impact of ICE in relation to users and suppliers and how that affects law enforcement.”

A video will be shown from a real armed robbery in Orange at the BP some years ago, with the robber on ICE, and it is hoped the high impact material will get the message across.

Headspace will also be there; the people who listen, for people who acknowledge they know of a problem, they have a problem or they can see a problem, they know there is someone who will be there.

Schools involved in the forum include; Canobolas High School, Orange High School, James Sheahan Catholic High School, Orange Anglican Grammar School and Molong High School.

Paul Cox from Round About Central West said, “Its free, the doors are open, everybody is invited, it doesn’t matter if you live in one side of town or the other, or work on one side or another, we would love to see more people from the public come along.”

With supporting partners; Orange City Council and Orange North Rotary. The forums will take place at Orange Function Centre on Monday September 3, at 9:30am and Tuesday September 4, at both 9:30am and 10:30am.
