Community Concert for Lead the Way

For one night in September, nine choirs will come together for a very special concert for a four-legged cause.

‘Lead the Way’ is being driven by the Orange North Rotary Club, who are on a mission to raise enough money to train a guide dog and greatly improve someone’s life.

“It costs $35,000 to raise and train a guide dog to a level that they can be suitably matched with a vision impaired person,” said club member David Driscoll.

The club were able to raise $37,000 through their fundraising effort last year and a young guide dog ‘Autumn’ is undergoing training.

Mr. Driscoll is confident that they will again hit their target this year and said the Lead the Way concert planned for 21 September will be well worth the $45 ticket price.

“It will be a great concert and there will be a lot of humour in it. All nine choirs will sing three songs, one of which will be dog related,” said Mr. Driscoll.

“I'll not tell you any more, but there will be some good humorous songs. It won't be all serious choral singing, there will be a lot of contemporary stuff, so it should appeal to all ages.”

The MC for the concert will be the well-known former ABC Classic FM presenter Marion Arnold and there will be a special performance by internationally acclaimed Australian pianist Andrea Lam.

The Orange North Rotary Club will also be holding a fundraising barbecue this Saturday 18 August, at the Orange Regional Conservatorium prior to the ‘Howling Winds’ concert.

On 1 September, club members will once again be behind the barbecue at Ashcroft’s IGA in Summer Street, while a morning tea will be held at their Summer Centre store.

“And all the food stuff we use at our fundraising barbecues is being donated free of charge by Ashcroft’s IGA and M & J Butchery, so everything we make is 100 percent profit towards the guide dog project,” Mr. Driscoll said.

The `Lead the Way’ charity concert will be held at the Orange Civic Theatre on Friday 21 September, 2018 at 7pm. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
