APPRENTICES ARE HAPPIEST WHEN THEY’RE STRIVING TOWARDS SOMETHING GREATER

The Skillsroad 2018 Youth Census survey reported that apprentices and trainees had the highest levels of wellbeing compared to any other post-school pathways.

According to the Youth Census, today’s young people need to acquire post-school education and skills that enable them to be life-long learners.

Skillset Workforce’s recently qualified Engineering Mechanical Trade apprentice, Luke Thomson says, “Through this apprenticeship, I have learnt an entirely new set of skills and I am encouraged to continuously develop my skills base whilst gaining hands on experience which has been the greatest benefit.”

Specialised CNC Engineering (SCNCE) Orange have hosted 3 apprentices and found that apprentices offer various benefits to the business as well. SCNCE owner, Geoff Parkes says, “We find that apprentices are an integral part of business growth. They allow for a succession planning strategy to upskill other staff. As they gain more skills and knowledge they are able to move up to a level of independence and aid in the training of others thus allowing flexibility of growth.”

With the right amount of support and mentoring from workplaces, young workers have found that they’re more motivated in the work that they’re performing, and striving towards clearer goals which better equips them for their future career.

SCNCE’s most recent labour recruit, Brandon Adams says, “Specialised CNC Engineering are assisting me in gaining valuable experience and a new set of skills in a field I have not worked in before. The guidance that the team has provided me with, has given me the ability and confidence to strive towards my career goals.”

Skillset Workforce is committed to supporting the development of regional jobs growth and youth employment through their various business programs and services. Skillset assist in providing apprentices and trainees with an overall support and mentoring network which has contributed to their reported level of wellbeing.
