The Orange community will be pulling on its thinking-cap to make the most of the opportunities offered by the awarding of a place on the latest edition of the MONOPOLY board.

Orange Mayor John Davis OAM said he was delighted to be in Sydney this week when the line-up of locations on the new Australian version of the game board were unveiled.

“To have the city of Orange sitting on the game board right alongside Sydney Harbour came as a fantastic surprise,” Mayor John Davis said.

“It’s worth thinking this through. On one level, this is simply the ‘cherry on the cake’. It’s a light-hearted extra bonus that builds on the serious promotional work that’s been happening for years.

“But on the other hand, this is a very popular board game that will be played by thousands of families for years to come, and that got to be a promotional opportunity.

“Hundreds, maybe thousands of families will be sitting around game boards for hours at a time having fun with each other. And the places where they all want to end up is Sydney Harbour and Orange.

“I’m not sure where we’ll go from here, but our tourism planners will be looking closely of how we could make use of this. We’re open to suggestions from the community once the news sinks in.”
